A fiber-optic patch cord is a fiber-optic cable capped at either end with connectors that allow it to be rapidly and conveniently connected to CATV, an optical switch or other telecommunication equipment. Its thick layer of protection is used to connect the optical transmitter, receiver, and the terminal box.
Bend-insensitive fiber adds a layer of glass around the core of the fiber which has a lower index of refraction. This layer is called “trench” and it reflects the weakly guided modes back into the core when stress normally causes them
to be coupled into the cladding. Bend insensitive fiber cable offers greater flexibility in demanding environments than traditional fiber cable. It is typically used in data centers or any space constrained area where tight bends and flexibility are required.
